Military Council in Niger Eyes Guinea’s Support to Counter ECOWAS Threats

A delegation from the ruling military council in Niger called on authorities in Guinea to bolster their support to the council amid threats from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to militarily intervene in Niger to restore the constitutional order in Niamey, according to the state Television in Guinea.

President of Guinea Mamady Doumbouya received a delegation from Niger’s ruling military council in Conakry led by Musa Salau Parmo who said that the delegation came to thank authorities in Guinea for their support.

In a statement issued at the end of last July, Guinea expressed its rejection to ECOWAS’s sanctions against Niger, including military intervention, calling on the group to reconsider its positions.

Niger’s delegation to Conakry comes two days after ECOWAS summit as its leaders announced that they prefer solution for the crisis through diplomatic channels.
