Kathmandu: UNICEF has launched an urgent humanitarian appeal, warning that at least 17,000 children are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance while 18 schools have been destroyed and another 20 damaged. Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported a significant increase in the number of missing people, now totaling just under 2,000.
According to Emirates News Agency, 14,829 security personnel have been deployed for search and rescue operations, utilizing drones to locate survivors in areas that are too dangerous to access on foot. The International Committee of the Red Cross estimates that at least 93,000 people have been affected by the devastating floods. Humanitarian aid has started reaching survivors who have taken refuge in temporary shelters.
In Nuwakot, one of the areas closest to Kathmandu, entire villages were swept away in a matter of minutes, leaving behind layers of mud and sediment. The disaster has left communities vulnerable and in desperate need of support, as the nation grapples with the aftermath of the severe flooding.
