Nouakchott: The Digital School, part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), has announced a significant expansion of its Digital Teacher Preparation Programme at the Teacher Training Institute in Nouakchott, Mauritania, with the inclusion of 340 new educators.
According to Emirates News Agency, this programme, delivered by the school's Global Digital Teacher Academy, aims to support digital transformation in education and aid underserved communities globally. It seeks to equip educational professionals in Mauritania with international standards, enhancing their capabilities and supporting the national education system's digital transformation through improved learning skills and digital classroom management.
With this addition, more than 2,070 teachers in Mauritania have now benefited from the training programmes, with over 45 percent female participation, indicating progress in gender balance and women's expanding role in digital education leadership.
This initiative is part of the Digital School's strategy to promote digital education across partner nations, developing innovative training models that boost teachers' efficiency and reinforce their role in preparing future generations to engage with emerging technologies.
In collaboration with Mauritania's Ministry of National Education and Education System Reform (MENRSE) and Arizona State University, the programme targets teachers at the Teacher Training Institute in Nouakchott, aiming to transfer knowledge and develop educational competencies in accordance with global best practices.
Currently, 340 teachers have registered on the Global Digital Teacher Academy platform, receiving in-person training on platform usage and digital learning pathways. Out of these, 240 teachers completed an orientation course, and more than 100 finished the advanced Teacher in the Digital Classroom programme, focusing on integrating digital learning tools in classrooms.
Dr. Waleed Al Ali, Secretary-General of the Digital School, stated that investing in teachers is crucial for developing digital education ecosystems. He emphasized that the Digital School is broadening its specialized programmes to enhance teacher readiness and empower them to lead educational transformation.
He highlighted the programme's integration of practical training with digital platforms to ensure effective knowledge transfer, which supports sustainable educational impact and aligns with future learning trends. He also mentioned that international partnerships enhance training quality and provide advanced educational content.
Mohamed El Amin Al Ban, Director of the Teacher Training Institute in Nouakchott, noted that the collaboration with the Digital School has led to a qualitative leap in teacher preparation by building national digital capabilities and upgrading infrastructure. He affirmed that this model is scalable and can be replicated across other institutes in Mauritania.
The inclusion of the Digital Teacher Preparation Programme in the official curriculum of the Teacher Training Institute is a strategic move to modernize teacher preparation systems for the digital era. By 2025, the institute will be equipped with the latest technologies, aligning with the UNESCO digital education model.
Launched in November 2020 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Digital School is the first internationally accredited digital school, providing innovative digital learning pathways to students and has reached over 850,000 beneficiaries across 40 countries, offering programmes in seven languages in collaboration with various partners. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in the United States.
