An earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitude on the Richter scale struck off the east coast of Taiwan.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake occurred at a depth of more than 4 km.
There have been no reports of human losses or material damage due to the earthquake.
Taiwan lies near tectonic faults at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, making it vulnerable to regular earthquakes.
