Abbas renews call for ceasefire, end to Israeli aggression on Gaza

RAMALLAH, - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas renewed Tuesday his call for full ceasefire of the Israeli occupation forces on the Gaza Strip, and opening safe passages to enter humanitarian relief, food, and medicines, and provide water, electricity, fuel and all basic needs to the Strip.

While receiving French President Emmanuel Macron in Ramallah, Abbas appealed to Macron and the UN Security Council's parties to immediately stop this aggression on "our people and provide" urgent international protection to them, hold an international peace conference and move to a political solution instead of security and military ones towards a two-state solution, in line with international legitimacy".

He affirmed that the Gaza Strip is part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967, saying "we reject any partial or security solutions to the Strip and stick to the comprehensive political solution".

Abbas held the occupying Israeli entity accountable for these events and the world's countries backing Israel to continue deepening their aggressive practices against the Palestinian people without any punishment.

Those countries have given the Israeli occupation a cover and protection without paying attention to the bloody history of the occupation authorities and their successive governments, he elaborated.

He said "we have repeatedly warned against the continuous destructive policies and practices of the Israeli occupation forces", referring that the occupation chose security and military solutions.

The occupying Israeli entity has worked on undermining a two-state solution and the conventions agreed, and replaced them by deepening settlements, ethnic cleansing and racial discrimination in Jerusalem and the West Bank, he said. Meanwhile, Macron stressed the importance of resuming the political process, stressing his country's firm position regarding a two-state solution.

He called for a just and comprehensive peace to achieve a permanent peace, affirming the need of recognizing the legitimate rights of every parties.

Palestine news agency quoted Macron as saying that the peace process alone is capable of giving hope to the Palestinian people, stressing that there is no lasting peace without respect for the legitimate right of the Palestinian people towards their land and state.

He also underlined the importance of ensuring social, humanitarian and economic protection through resuming electricity to hospitals in the Gaza Strip and ensuring the crossing of humanitarian convoys.

Macron stressed the importance for Israel to bear its responsibilities in preventing any violations by the colonizers in the West Bank against Palestinian citizens.
