Abdulla Al Hamed Engages With Snap Inc. on Digital Safety and AI Policies

Abu dhabi: Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Authority, recently convened with Jean Goni©, Senior Director of Public Policy for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Snap Inc., to explore collaborative opportunities in digital safety and platform governance. This meeting, held in London, aimed to create a safer and more trusted digital media environment amid the rapid evolution of the technology and media sectors.

According to Emirates News Agency, the dialogue covered a range of global digital policy priorities, focusing on the protection of children and young people online and ensuring age-appropriate digital experiences. The discussions also included best practices for responsible content moderation and strategies to enhance transparency and accountability across digital platforms.

Both parties examined the influence of artificial intelligence in transforming content creation and distribution. They highlighted the necessity of establishing responsible AI frameworks that encourage innovation while upholding digital trust.

Abdulla Al Hamed emphasized that developing a safe and responsible digital space is a strategic goal for the United Arab Emirates. He reiterated that collaboration with global digital platforms is vital for formulating policies that address emerging challenges and promote the positive use of technology. He remarked, "The future of media depends on our ability to strike the right balance between accelerating innovation and reinforcing responsibility."

Furthermore, he expressed that the UAE views AI as an opportunity to redefine media's future, contingent upon its deployment within a framework that upholds integrity, transparency, and accountability. He noted, "Through ongoing dialogue with the world's leading digital platforms, we are working to build an advanced model that combines innovation with protection and supports the creation of more impactful and trustworthy content."

This meeting is part of the National Media Authority's broader initiative to strengthen international partnerships and exchange expertise with leading global institutions and digital platforms. These efforts are directed at advancing a safe and sustainable digital media ecosystem and exploring avenues for collaboration in training, knowledge sharing, and future initiatives.

The meeting was also attended by Maitha Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Strategy and Media Policy Sector at the National Media Authority; Frederica Cook, Head of Public Policy for the United Kingdom and Ireland at Snap Inc.; and Alameer Albaheli, Regional Public Policy Lead, MEA at Snap Inc.
