Abu dhabi: Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH), announced that the emirate is advancing towards a sophisticated healthcare model that anticipates disease and offers precise, personalized care within an integrated system. According to Emirates News Agency, Dr. Al Ghaithi emphasized the importance of transforming scientific knowledge into real-world applications during her statement marking World Health Day. She noted that the future of healthcare relies on systems that connect knowledge to application, enabling earlier detection, precise interventions, and improved outcomes over time. Dr. Al Ghaithi highlighted the Abu Dhabi Biobank as a pivotal component, describing it as a convergence point for biology, data, and care. This platform facilitates continuous learning and bridges the gap between research and practical application. She pointed out that when research, data, and innovation are integrated, they translate into impactful decisions and interventi ons in people's lives. The undersecretary noted that through national genomics programs and early screening initiatives, Abu Dhabi is facilitating earlier detection and precise care. In pharmacogenomics, treatments are tailored to individual genetic profiles, enhancing effectiveness and reducing risk. The emirate is also establishing itself as a global hub for clinical research, supported by a regulatory environment that accelerates approvals and reduces the time from discovery to application. Dr. Al Ghaithi stressed that the true strength of this model lies in connecting initiatives. When biological data, clinical insights, and research capabilities operate within a unified system, the time between discovery and impact is significantly shortened, allowing for earlier diagnosis and improved care for conditions that once took years to identify. This model is developed through partnerships with global research institutions, academic centers, and industry leaders. These collaborations aim to co-develop soluti ons, accelerate innovation, and implement them in real-world applications. Abu Dhabi is evolving into a global platform for knowledge creation and innovation, where ideas are developed, tested, and scaled for global impact. In a global context, the approach addresses the underrepresentation of certain populations in genomic research, which is essential for developing accurate and inclusive treatments. Dr. Al Ghaithi concluded by emphasizing that supporting science is fundamental, but the challenge lies in translating scientific advances into widespread, sustainable impact through collective action. On World Health Day, the focus is on ensuring that scientific discoveries translate into better lives for people worldwide.
