AD Ports Group Commences Major Modernisation Project at Noatum Ports Luanda Terminal

Luanda: AD Ports Group today laid the foundation stone for the Noatum Ports Luanda Terminal at the Port of Luanda, marking the commencement of one of the most significant port modernisation and expansion projects in Angola.

According to Emirates News Agency, the project involves an initial investment of US$250 million over the first three years, with the total investment expected to reach up to US$380 million over the 20-year concession period, which is extendable until 2055. The construction at the Noatum Ports Luanda Terminal is scheduled to span 18 months, delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure, advanced technology, and sustainable equipment. This aims to position the Port of Luanda as one of the most competitive ports in Central and West Africa.

AD Ports Group holds an 81% stake in the multipurpose terminal and a 90% stake in the joint venture Noatum Unicargas Logistics, responsible for integrated logistics operations and fleet modernisation. Mohammed Al Tamimi, Chief Executive Officer of Noatum Ports, stated that this project reflects their long-term strategy to deliver world-class infrastructure and solutions that enhance trade, create opportunities for the local community, and position Luanda as a leading maritime hub.

The modernisation will transform the Luanda terminal into a state-of-the-art facility for general cargo, container, and Ro-Ro operations. It will be the only terminal in the Port of Luanda capable of accommodating Super Post-Panamax vessels of up to 14,000 TEUs, featuring advanced cranes and IT systems to promote operational efficiency and sustainability. Upon completion in Q1 2027, container capacity is expected to increase significantly, with a substantial rise in Ro-Ro volumes.

AD Ports Group will leverage its global network to attract new shipping lines to the Port of Luanda, integrating Angola into key international logistics corridors. The project is anticipated to generate numerous jobs and include training programmes and corporate social responsibility initiatives to empower the local community.

This investment reinforces Angola's position as a regional logistics hub, supporting its economic sovereignty and laying the foundation for broader industrial and commercial development. Over the past three years, AD Ports Group has announced more than US$800 million in planned investments across Africa, further expanding its presence in the continent.
