Kathmandu: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $5 million emergency grant to fund urgent rescue and relief operations after devastating floods and debris flows struck communities along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems on 26 August. The natural disaster has resulted in significant loss of life, injuries, displacement, and extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and essential services across the Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts. In response, the Government of Nepal has designated the affected areas as disaster crisis-affected zones and is spearheading extensive response efforts. Search and rescue missions, as well as evaluations of the damage and the needs of the communities, are ongoing.
According to Emirates News Agency, the grant will be funded through ADB's Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund. It is intended to cover expenses for search and rescue equipment, medical supplies, food, safe drinking water, temporary shelter, sanitation and hygiene products, debris clearance, emergency stabilization work, and logistical support.
