ADNOC Approves Investment for Ruwais Diyab Unconventional Gas Project

Abu Dhabi:ADNOC has announced its final investment decision (FID) for the Ruwais Diyab Unconventional Gas Development in Abu Dhabi during the ADIPEC event. This initiative is a significant step in ADNOC's global gas growth strategy, aimed at providing a new source of reliable energy for both domestic and international markets.

According to Emirates News Agency, the project is projected to deliver 345 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of raw gas starting in 2029, with the capability to reach up to 1 billion scfd in the future. The gas will be processed on-site and integrated into the UAE's gas network through new pipeline infrastructure. This development is intended to bolster domestic supply, support economic and industrial growth, and enhance ADNOC's liquefied natural gas (LNG) export goals.

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, has stated that this FID represents a crucial milestone in tapping into Abu Dhabi's extensive gas resources. The investment is expected to strengthen UAE's energy security, facilitate industrial growth, and further ADNOC's global gas growth strategy to meet increasing energy demands both locally and globally.

The UAE, holding the seventh-largest gas reserves globally, possesses 298 trillion standard cubic feet of conventional gas reserves and 160 trillion standard cubic feet of unconventional gas resources. As global demand for lower-carbon, reliable energy increases, ADNOC is committed to unlocking more of the nation's gas resources and expanding its LNG offerings to cater to its customers and support industrial and AI infrastructure growth.

The additional unconventional gas supply from Ruwais Diyab will enhance ADNOC's gas value chain and enable ADNOC Gas to meet the rising demands of domestic and international customers. The project is part of ADNOC's ambition to build a scalable unconventional gas business and create a platform for future growth. It follows a disciplined approach of technical studies and field testing, executed by ADNOC Onshore under a design-build-operate model, aiming to reduce development risks. The project integrates advanced subsurface expertise, AI-enabled drilling, and completion technologies to ensure efficient and responsible development of domestic gas resources.
