Al Marar Leads UAE Delegation at 51st OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul

Istanbul: Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, led the UAE delegation to the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which convened under the theme 'The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in a Transforming World' from June 21-22 in Istanbul. The session focused on addressing regional and international challenges through dialogue and diplomacy.

According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE delegation stressed the significance of joint efforts to tackle existing global issues. They emphasized the UAE's dedication to promoting peace, stability, and political solutions, particularly concerning the Palestinian situation. The UAE reaffirmed its stance against any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians and advocated for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state via a two-state solution.

The delegation expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, advocating for a civilian-led political transition free from military influence and backed by the international community. They highlighted the need for urgent measures to protect civilians and ensure unimpeded humanitarian aid delivery, cautioning against the use of aid as a political tool.

The UAE also addressed unfounded allegations made by the Port Sudan Authority, referencing the International Court of Justice's dismissal of the case against the UAE on May 5, 2025. This decision confirmed the baseless nature of the claims. The UAE committed to continuing its support for a peaceful resolution in Sudan, having already contributed over USD 680 million since the conflict's onset.

The delegation also showcased the UAE's advancements in technology, AI, and sustainability, including the introduction of an AI curriculum in government schools and high rankings in Global Competitiveness Indicators. They highlighted the UAE's green initiatives such as 'Net-Zero 2050' and the 'Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative.'

Furthermore, the UAE's commitment to foreign aid was underscored with the launch of 'Erth Zayed Philanthropies,' which aligns with the legacy of the UAE's founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
