Ras al hadd: Theyab Al Mheiri, representing Team Abu Dhabi and a member of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club Academy, achieved a commendable third place in the Optimist class at the 2026 Oman Sailing Championship held in Ras Al Hadd, Wilayat of Sur.
According to Emirates News Agency, the championship witnessed participation from over 64 sailors hailing from Oman, the UAE, and Sri Lanka. Al Mheiri's performance was noteworthy as he managed to secure a podium finish despite facing challenging weather and sea conditions.
Team Abu Dhabi's involvement in the championship was not only about competition but also served as a developmental platform for emerging sailors from the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club Academy. Young athletes such as Ali Al Remeithi, Ali Ibrahim, Hazza Ibrahim, and Nouh Al Booshi participated in the Optimist class and succeeded in completing the races despite the demanding conditions.
Their participation is part of a broader development programme by the academy aimed at providing young sailors with competitive experience, enhancing their technical and physical skills, and preparing them for future regional and international events. This aligns with the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club and its academy's strategy to expand participation in modern sailing by nurturing young talent and creating a pathway from training programmes to competitive arenas both locally and internationally.
