‘Ambassadors of Coexistence’ Initiative Promotes Global Peace

Abu Dhabi: Etienne Berchtold, Austrian Ambassador to the UAE, stated that the "Ambassadors of Coexistence" initiative, launched by the Manara Centre for Coexistence and Dialogue at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, has introduced a series of programmes aimed at fostering peace and cultural understanding. In statements to Emirates News Agency (WAM), Berchtold highlighted the initiative's role in combating antisemitism, violent extremism, and hate speech, emphasizing its significance in building cross-cultural dialogue and promoting shared human values.

According to Emirates News Agency, Berchtold described the UAE as a strategic partner for Austria and the West in addressing extremism, citing the country's efforts as a model worth emulating. He recalled a successful interfaith event co-hosted by Austria and the UAE at the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi last year, which laid the groundwork for future collaboration.

Tony Sgro, Founder and CEO of EdVenture Partners, explained that the second edition of the initiative empowers international university students to create digital campaigns that promote tolerance and mutual respect. The programme engages students in producing impactful research papers, high-quality video content, and integrated digital campaigns that reflect their vision for more peaceful societies.

Rev. Bishoy Fakhri, Pastor of the Coptic Orthodox Church of St. Anthony in Abu Dhabi, announced a youth-focused project titled "Peace Makers," which aims to instill peacebuilding values in children. The project is expanding and will be discussed further during the conference.

Isaac Kutsiwa Simon, a student at the American University of Nigeria, mentioned that his team is running a campaign called "Ubuntu for Peace," inspired by the African philosophy of shared humanity. The campaign includes peace dialogues, community workshops, tree planting, and initiatives addressing water scarcity to support peace efforts.

Ven. Mudithavihari Thero Balangoda, a representative of the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery in Sri Lanka, stated that the initiative plays a vital role in spreading the message of peace and coexistence globally. He noted ongoing collaboration with the Manara Centre and revealed plans to host a major event in Sri Lanka to promote these values.
