Abu Dhabi:The Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA), in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF), has hosted an insightful panel discussion focused on the role of arts and culture in reinforcing national identity, enhancing the UAE's international presence, and fostering unity among people.
According to Wam, the event was part of the "Riwaq Al Fikr" programme and was titled "A Nation in Dialogue Arts, Culture and the UAE's Global Engagement." The discussion was complemented by the unveiling of an exhibition from ADMAF's art collection, featuring works by artists such as Narjes Noureddine, Michael Rice, Layla Juma, Salama Nasib, Patricia Millns, and Hazem Harb. This exhibition will remain on display at the Academy for a year.
The discussion panel included key figures such as Dr. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to the UAE President and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University; Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, Founder of ADMAF and Artistic Director of the Abu Dhabi Festival; and Isobel Abulhoul, CEO and Trustee of the Emirates Literature Foundation. The session delved into how cultural diplomacy can bolster national identity and elevate the UAE's global profile.
Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo emphasized the significance of cultural diplomacy as a means of fostering dialogue and understanding between nations. She noted that Emirati artists serve as cultural ambassadors, with their work reflecting the UAE's identity and strengthening its international presence. She highlighted the importance of investing in young talent through initiatives such as the Abu Dhabi Festival and ADMAF's programs.
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Dhaheri, Deputy Director-General of AGDA, underscored the importance of integrating arts and culture into diplomatic education. He remarked on how the collaboration with ADMAF enhances students' experiences by allowing them to explore the role of arts in international engagement and understanding UAE’s values. The exhibition at the Academy serves as an educational tool to deepen future diplomats' understanding of the power of creativity in fostering dialogue and building international trust.
