Atlanta: Defending champion Argentina beat Egypt 3-2 in the round of 16 of the World Cup on Tuesday in Atlanta to reach the quarterfinals.
According to Emirates News Agency, Argentina secured their victory with goals from Romero in the 79th minute, Messi in the 84th minute, and Fernandez during stoppage time at 90+2 minutes. Egypt put up a strong fight with goals from Ibrahim in the 15th minute and Ziko in the 67th minute.
Lionel Messi has now scored his eighth goal of this World Cup, the most by any player in the tournament. Argentina is set to face either Switzerland or Colombia in the quarterfinals.
