Asian Modern Sailing Championship Begins at Al Hamriyah Cultural and Sports Club


Al hamriyah: The Al Hamriyah Cultural and Sports Club officially inaugurated the Asian Youth Modern Sailing Championship, which is being hosted and organized at the Al Hamriyah International Sailing Center. The championship, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, will continue until 30th December.



According to Emirates News Agency, the opening ceremony saw the presence of Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE Sailing and Modern Rowing Federation; Humaid Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Hamriyah Club; Mubarak Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality; and Mohammed Al Obeidli, Secretary-General of the UAE Sailing and Modern Rowing Federation. Members of the club’s board of directors, representatives of the participating national teams, and the event’s partners and sponsors also attended the event.



Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan remarked on the importance of the Asian Modern Sailing Championship for the UAE, noting its return after a six-year pause. He pointed out the high technical caliber of the participating teams, which offers UAE national team sailors a chance to improve their readiness and elevate their competitive performance.



Salem Al Khayyal, Chairman of the Championship’s Organising Committee, expressed a warm welcome to the participating teams. He stated that hosting such a continental event underscores the esteemed status of the UAE, particularly the emirate of Sharjah and Al Hamriyah Club, in organizing major championships on both continental and international stages.



Al Khayyal further acknowledged the cooperating entities involved in the championship’s organization, highlighting the support of the UAE Sailing and Modern Rowing Federation, Sharjah Sports Council, and Al Hamriyah Municipality. Sponsors ‘Ajmal Makan’ and ‘Asas Steel’ were also recognized for their contributions, with Al Khayyal extending his best wishes for the success of all participants.
