Bahrain Submits Letter to UN Addressing Iranian Aggressions and Security Threats

New york: The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations submitted a formal letter to the United Nations addressing the repercussions of Iranian aggression against regional states. The letter characterized these actions as a violation of national sovereignty, international law, the UN Charter, and the principles of good neighborliness.

According to Emirates News Agency, the letter, submitted on behalf of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, emphasized that Iran's conduct is part of a long-standing pattern of aggression. This includes support for armed groups and networks across the region, including Al-Qaeda, the Houthis, Hezbollah, and various armed militias in Iraq that receive Iranian weaponry, training, financing, and operational guidance.

The letter noted that this support has allowed these groups to operate outside national legal frameworks, undermine state institutions, and engage in cross-border violence, destabilizing regional security. It highlighted reports from several GCC states on dismantling terrorist cells funded and managed by Hezbollah and Iran, which used commercial and economic covers for illicit activities like money laundering, drug trafficking, and terror financing.

The GCC states urged Iraq to take measures to halt attacks by militias against neighboring countries. The letter stressed that Iran's support of armed groups and interference with navigation in the Strait of Hormuz are part of unlawful conduct undermining internal security and regional stability.

The submission concluded by urging the UN Security Council to maintain international peace and security. It called for measures to ensure Iran's compliance with international obligations, cessation of support for armed proxies, and prevention of military technology transfers.

While reaffirming their commitment to peaceful solutions, the GCC states asserted their right to self-defense, both individually and collectively, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.
