Abu dhabi: The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Wednesday that 59 commercial vessels have been rerouted since the initiation of the US blockade on Iranian ports. The blockade, which commenced in mid-July, aims to address ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Emirates News Agency, CENTCOM revealed that, as of August 12th, US forces have not only rerouted 59 commercial vessels but have also disabled three ships and boarded two others to ensure strict adherence to the blockade's regulations. The strategic move is part of a broader effort to maintain security and stability in the region.
CENTCOM had previously reported that approximately 35 vessels were permitted passage through the blockade zone. These vessels were primarily on missions to deliver humanitarian assistance, underlining the US commitment to allowing essential aid despite the blockade.
The naval blockade resumed on July 14th as a direct response to a series of attacks targeting commercial vessels and the subsequent disruption to navigation in the critical maritime corridor of the Strait of Hormuz. The blockade underscores the heightened tensions and the US's proactive measures to safeguard international shipping lanes from further threats.
