Abu Dhabi:The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has announced plans to open the Ramhan Island bridge network in the second quarter of 2027. This major strategic project involves the construction of a seven-bridge development, which will connect Ramhan and Jubail Islands to the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway (E12). The initiative is part of DMT's efforts to enhance mobility links to support urban and economic development across Abu Dhabi.
According to Wam, the project is expected to span more than 166,000 square meters with an estimated cost of AED 872 million. It will include three tunnels and a network of ramps, roads, and utility corridors aimed at improving road accessibility and capacity, ultimately facilitating smoother traffic flow within the area.
Eng Eisa Mubarak Almazrouei, Director General of Infrastructure Development at the DMT, emphasized that the project is a significant component of Abu Dhabi's evolving transportation network. It aims to facilitate access to Ramhan and Jubail Islands, unlocking new development zones and economic opportunities. The initiative reflects DMT's strategic approach to creating integrated, liveable communities that enhance quality of life and support the emirate's rapid expansion.
The project also features environmentally conscious design elements, including the use of energy-efficient LED lighting to minimize energy consumption and light pollution. Additionally, the department has committed to recycling approximately 90% of the project's waste, equivalent to over 2,200 tonnes, aligning with its dedication to environmental responsibility and best practices in infrastructure delivery.
