Dubai: Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently hosted Jrgen Barke, the Minister of Economics, Innovation, Digitalisation and Energy and Deputy Prime Minister of the German State of Saarland, to discuss potential collaborations in renewable and clean energy.
According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting included key DEWA officials such as Marwan bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future, and Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources. Both parties emphasized the commitment of the UAE and Germany in promoting the global energy transition, advancing clean technology innovations, and fostering partnerships that contribute to climate action and sustainable economic growth.
During the discussions, Al Tayer detailed DEWA's flagship projects and strategic initiatives that bolster Dubai's role as a global hub for clean energy and green economy solutions. He highlighted the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, noted as the largest single-site solar park globally based on the independent power producer model, which is projected to have a production capacity exceeding 8,000 megawatts by 2030.
Al Tayer elaborated on the significance of the solar park in fulfilling the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming to ensure that 100 percent of Dubai's power capacity is derived from clean sources by 2050. He also discussed DEWA's Green Hydrogen project at the solar park, a pioneering facility in the Middle East and North Africa for producing hydrogen via solar power. This project supports research and development while exploring green hydrogen's potential as a clean fuel for various applications, contributing to a sustainable hydrogen economy.
Al Tayer further emphasized DEWA's deployment of advanced technologies in renewable energy, smart grids, energy storage, and digital transformation to improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. He reiterated DEWA's dedication to fostering international cooperation and knowledge exchange to expedite innovation in clean and renewable energy.
Barke praised the UAE's ambitious clean energy objectives and DEWA's leadership in executing large-scale renewable energy projects.
