Sharjah: The Dubai Films and Games Commission (DFGC) has partnered with the UK's National Film and Television School (NFTS) and Prime Video to introduce a new Talent Development Programme aimed at nurturing emerging scriptwriting and production talent in Dubai. The initiative seeks to accelerate the growth of creative professionals by equipping them with the skills and insights needed to succeed in the global screen industry.
According to Emirates News Agency, the programme will take place from January 26th to January 30th, 2026, providing an intensive environment for writers and producers to develop original scripted television projects. The week-long course is designed to guide participants through the process of shaping, developing, and pitching their television ideas, combining craft-focused training with industry insights and hands-on project development.
The programme will be led by renowned producer and screenwriter Matt Delargy, alongside Adrian Banyard of Big Light Productions. Participants will benefit from masterclasses, workshops, and mentoring sessions with leading creatives and Amazon MGM Studios executives. The curriculum will cover a range of topics, including concept and character development, narrative structure, marketing, and international co-production models.
The initiative aligns with DFGC's broader efforts to strengthen Dubai's film and television landscape, develop local talent, and position the emirate as a regional production hub. Hesham Al Olama, CEO of DFGC, emphasized the programme's role in building a sustainable industry by providing world-class training and international platforms for Dubai's creative professionals.
Jon Wardle, Director of NFTS, highlighted the growing demand for compelling storytelling in the UAE and expressed enthusiasm for bringing NFTS's industry-leading training to the region. Nicole Clemens of Prime Video underscored the importance of collaboration between industry, government, and academia in supporting local creative talent and connecting their stories with global audiences.
Ayesha bin Kalli, Head of Talent Development at DFGC, noted the programme's focus on both the creative process and the practical realities of developing and pitching scripted projects. Participants will complete the programme with a clearer understanding of translating creative visions into viable film and television projects.
The programme will conclude with a pitching session to a panel of industry professionals, followed by a discussion on the future of series production in the MENA region. Dubai-based emerging talent interested in applying must submit their applications by January 12th, 2026. The application process requires a one-page Vision Statement, a detailed story synopsis, and CVs or biographies of the applicants.
