Dubai: Dubai Municipality, in collaboration with the Dubai Youth Council, has launched the Sustainability Leaders Lab, an initiative designed to empower youth-led urban innovation. The launch took place during an interactive workshop organized by the Municipality.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Sustainability Leaders Lab acts as a pioneering platform that allows young individuals to transform their innovative ideas into urban projects and initiatives in conjunction with Dubai Municipality. This initiative aims to provide practical solutions that contribute to the city's future development. The Lab reflects Dubai Municipality's dedication to participatory design, advancing urban and social innovation, and enabling young people to offer sustainable solutions to urban and environmental challenges.
The initiative also emphasizes the role of youth as active partners in shaping public spaces, municipal services, and future city projects, thereby enhancing the quality of life. The launch event was graced by several dignitaries, including Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs; Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality; Aisha Abdullah Miran, Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority; Abdulla Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director General of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department; and Khaled Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director of the Federal Youth Authority. Their presence highlighted the importance of institutionalizing youth participation in development projects and strengthening the role of young people in advancing initiatives that contribute to a more sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready city.
During the event, Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi approved the first dedicated youth space within Dubai Municipality's public parks as part of the Work from Park initiative at Al Barsha Pond Park. This space will serve as an interactive platform for young people, leaders, and experts, providing a practical environment for developing ideas and transforming them into implementable projects in partnership with Dubai Municipality. The space will also host the Sustainability Leaders Lab's meetings and activities, fostering dialogue, participatory design, and the development of innovative urban initiatives that benefit the community and improve the quality of life in Dubai.

The Sustainability Leaders Lab offers young individuals a genuine opportunity to develop their ideas and transform them into practical projects in partnership with Dubai Municipality, strengthening Dubai's future readiness.
Reem Al Falasi, Chair of the Dubai Youth Council, remarked that Dubai is a city of action where young people's ideas are transformed into projects and initiatives, contributing to the city's journey toward sustainability. Fatima Afghan, Chairperson of the Dubai Municipality Youth Council, added that the Lab reflects Dubai Municipality's vision of making young people genuine partners in developing the city by providing an interactive platform for ambition, knowledge, and practical experience.
The Lab featured interactive brainstorming sessions where participants, guided by young leaders from Dubai Municipality departments, developed innovative and implementable project concepts and prototypes. The workshops focused on actionable ideas in areas such as public parks, integrated waste management, and the home-building journey. Selected projects will progress into development and implementation phases in partnership with Dubai Municipality, with young participants playing a key role in their delivery.
