Dubai Supreme Council of Energy Focuses on Sustainability and Net Zero Goals in 91st Meeting

Dubai: H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), led the 91st council meeting held virtually. Participants included Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the council, and other key figures such as Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the council.

According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting centered on Dubai's strategic objectives and initiatives aimed at achieving sustainability and net zero goals. Emphasis was placed on two main pillars: the Circle Dubai initiative by Dubai Municipality, which aims to enhance waste-reduction practices, and the RTA's 'Zero-Emissions Public Transportation in Dubai 2050' strategy.

Al Tayer highlighted the alignment of these initiatives with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He noted that these efforts support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim for 100 percent clean energy production by 2050. The Circle Dubai initiative is transforming waste management into a circular economy model, while the RTA strategy focuses on expanding the use of electric and hydrogen vehicles.

Al Muhairbi reiterated the council's commitment to evaluating performance through approved strategies and implementation mechanisms. He emphasized the importance of achieving tangible results that support Dubai's long-term vision and its leadership in sustainable development and the green economy.

The council underscored the importance of ongoing programmes to reduce waste and increase recycling. Initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the land transport sector also remain a priority for future review.
