Ebola Outbreak Claims Over 5,000 Lives in DR Congo

Kinshasa:The death toll from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has exceeded 5,000, as reported by the government on Friday. Authorities are still seeking effective methods to control the country's deadliest Ebola epidemic to date.

According to Wam, more than 10,000 individuals have been infected since the outbreak was declared in May. The epidemic has spread across eight of Congo's 26 provinces, with numerous fatalities occurring outside of treatment centers.

Recently, Nigeria reported an Ebola case, becoming the fourth African nation to do so, which has extended the outbreak's reach to West Africa. East African nations, including Kenya and Uganda, have also reported cases of Ebola.

In response to the outbreak, major American and international airlines have urged the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reconsider new regulations that require all US-bound travelers to confirm they have not been in the Democratic Republic of Congo within the previous 21 days.
