Abu Dhabi:EDGE has announced the completion of the development of the MK 82 Penetrator aircraft munition. This weapon, designed and manufactured in the UAE by LAHAB, is intended for hardened targets.
According to Emirates News Agency, the development program culminated in rigorous testing for both performance and qualification. The MK 82 Penetrator was tested against various hardened target types and underwent a series of environmental qualification tests. In these trials, it successfully penetrated reinforced concrete over one meter thick without deviating from its trajectory.
Mohammed Arbabi, Chief Executive Officer of LAHAB, stated that the new weapon expands end-user capabilities while maintaining ease of use. Designed specifically for reinforced targets and bunkers, it offers enhanced flexibility without unnecessary complexity. Arbabi emphasized LAHAB's commitment to understanding end-user needs and enhancing national capabilities.
The MK 82 Penetrator is compatible with NATO-configuration aircraft, including fourth and 4.5 generation fighters, advanced jet trainers, and fifth-generation fighters. It can also be used with precision guidance kits like the AL TARIQ and THUNDER families, allowing users to enhance their weaponry without changing guidance systems.
This munition paves the way for the MK 83 Penetrator, currently under advanced development. Both munitions are part of LAHAB's initiative to establish a unique sovereign capability in munitions development and manufacturing within the UAE.
