Egyptian and Russian Leaders Discuss Strategic Projects in Suez Canal

Cairo: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin engaged in a telephone conversation to discuss the establishment of a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal area.

According to Emirates News Agency, the conversation, as reported by the press service of the Egyptian leader, centered on international and regional issues of mutual interest. The dialogue included discussions on expanding ties between Moscow and Cairo, particularly in the economic, trade, agricultural, and humanitarian sectors.

Putin and Al-Sisi paid special attention to major joint projects, notably the construction of Egypt's first nuclear power plant, El Dabaa, with Russian involvement. They also focused on the creation of a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal area, a project significant for both nations.

The presidents expressed a mutual interest in further strengthening Russian-Egyptian relations. An agreement for a special zone with a facilitated tax regime for Russian enterprises was signed in 2018, located in the east of Port Said. This project, aimed at fostering industrial cooperation, is planned for a 13-year implementation period.
