Abu dhabi: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has unveiled its Ramadan programmes for the current year, reaching over 1.5 million individuals within the UAE and in 44 countries globally. These initiatives are being implemented at an estimated cost exceeding AED60 million, aiming to mitigate the adverse effects of humanitarian crises in various regions.
According to Emirates News Agency, the ERC's programmes this Ramadan encompass a variety of initiatives, including the Ramadan food basket (Ramadan Ration), Iftar for fasting persons, breaking of the fast, Zakat Al Fitr, and Eid clothing. This comprehensive campaign, themed 'Ramadan. Continuous Giving,' was launched during a press conference at the ERC headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The campaign is characterized by a broader scope and wider reach, reflecting the expansive growth of ERC's humanitarian efforts both domestically and internationally.
During the conference, Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of the ERC, highlighted that this year's campaign is part of the 'Year of Family' initiatives. He emphasized the consistent growth of ERC's humanitarian and development programmes under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, and Chairman of the ERC. The increased budget allocation for this year's campaign has broadened the range of beneficiaries, enhancing sustainable humanitarian impact.
Al Mazrouei also noted that the campaign's activities are designed to foster connections within the UAE's philanthropic community and to expand partnerships across various sectors. This approach supports the ERC's mission to increase the number of beneficiaries and provide comprehensive care to targeted groups. The Secretary-General praised the significant contributions of campaign partners, including government and private entities, as well as national media outlets, for their unwavering support of ERC's humanitarian goals.
As per an ERC statement, approximately 395,000 individuals within the UAE are benefiting from this year's Ramadan programmes, with a total expenditure surpassing AED32.5 million. These efforts focus on assisting the most vulnerable families and individuals throughout the emirates. Internationally, the ERC is aiding over one million beneficiaries in 44 countries across four continents, with initiatives costing around AED27.5 million. These global efforts include food support, cash assistance, clothing, and seasonal aid, prioritizing nations facing severe humanitarian challenges.
