Etihad Airways and Ethiopian Airlines Forge Strategic Partnership, Announce New Flights Between Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa

Abu Dhabi: Etihad Airways and Ethiopian Airlines have announced a landmark Joint Venture (JV) aimed at enhancing connectivity between Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. This strategic partnership, formalized at Ethiopian Airlines' headquarters in Addis Ababa, includes a codeshare arrangement to provide passengers with broader travel opportunities across both networks.

According to Emirates News Agency, the collaboration will see the launch of new flights between Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa, further strengthening ties between the two regions. Ethiopian Airlines is set to begin services from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) to Zayed International Airport (AUH) on 15 July, with Etihad Airways commencing daily flights to Addis Ababa starting 1 October.

Subject to regulatory approval, the JV between Etihad and Ethiopian Airlines will facilitate collaboration in developing and expanding routes between the UAE and Ethiopia while enhancing connectivity across their respective networks. This partnership aims to deliver greater value to passengers by strengthening links across the continents, leading to a more seamless and comprehensive combined network.

Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, stated that the JV is beneficial for customers of both airlines, connecting the expanding networks and providing seamless access to a growing list of destinations. He highlighted the opportunity to explore further cooperation across regions, including frequent flyer programs, training, and cargo.

Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, expressed delight at the strategic agreement, marking a milestone in enhancing connectivity between Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. He emphasized the commitment to providing passengers with greater travel convenience and exceptional service, fostering strong bilateral relations and promoting economic growth between Ethiopia and the UAE.

The JV underscores a shared commitment to offering expanded travel options and a smoother journey for passengers traveling between major African destinations on Ethiopian's network and key cities in the UAE and Asia. Ethiopian Airlines will operate the new route using its modern fleet, including the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350-1000, ensuring a comfortable travel experience.
