EU Calls for Reduction in Oil and Gas Consumption Amid Gulf Crisis

Brussels: The European Commission has urged member states to cut back on oil and gas usage, especially within the transport sector, as the ongoing conflict in the Arabian Gulf threatens potential supply disruptions and exacerbates the current energy crisis.

According to Emirates News Agency, European Commissioner for Energy Dan J¸rgensen has reached out to national energy ministers with a letter suggesting the implementation of voluntary demand-saving measures. This proposal comes at a critical moment, as EU energy ministers are scheduled to convene for an emergency meeting on Tuesday. The agenda will focus on strategies to navigate the escalating crisis and maintain energy stability across the continent.

J¸rgensen's letter highlights the pressing challenges faced by Europe's transport sector, including soaring costs and looming supply shortages. These issues could compel governments to encourage citizens to reduce their reliance on fuel-intensive activities such as driving and flying, reserving limited energy resources for essential services and operations.
