Flooding in Western China Causes Destruction of Homes and Infrastructure

Beijing: Flooding in southwestern China has resulted in significant destruction, impacting dozens of roads and homes across the region. In Yunnan province's mountainous Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, 27 houses have been damaged and 16 bridges have either been damaged or destroyed as of Sunday.

According to Emirates News Agency, no casualties have been reported so far, which is notable given that the area is a popular tourist destination and Monday was a national holiday. However, landslides and floods have led to road closures in the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, with rescue efforts being further complicated by persistent deep fog.

The flooding has necessitated the evacuation of 300 tourists from the Meri Snow Mountain scenic zone in the prefecture. Several hundred residents have also been relocated to ensure their safety. Authorities are bracing for more rain over the coming days, which could exacerbate the current situation.
