Algiers: A delegation from the Parliamentary Division of the Federal National Council (FNC) is actively participating in the 38th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), which is currently being held in Algiers, the capital of Algeria. Hashima Yasser Ali Saeed Al Afari, a member of the FNC Parliamentary Division, has been elected to chair the meeting of the Committee on Social Affairs, Women, Children, and Youth.
According to Emirates News Agency, during the committee meeting, the FNC Parliamentary Division reiterated the UAE's commitment to supporting and empowering women amidst mounting challenges faced by Arab women. In a significant move in March 2024, the UAE entered a strategic partnership with UN Women, pledging US$15 million over 3.5 years to support the UN Women Liaison Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to promote global women's empowerment initiatives.
The FNC Parliamentary Division highlighted the significance of bolstering joint Arab parliamentary work through the promotion of parliamentary diplomacy, which is now a fundamental aspect of international relations. Additionally, it advocated for tangible steps to enhance the structure and operational mechanisms of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Emphasizing the necessity for cooperation, coordination, and consultation, the FNC Parliamentary Division also stressed the importance of strengthening parliamentary diplomacy across all regional and international platforms. It called for the establishment of strategic partnerships and the development of communication channels and dialogue with international parliamentary and geopolitical organizations and blocs.
