Munich: Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee at the Federal National Council (FNC), met with Oleksii Goncharenko, Member of the Parliament of Ukraine (Verkhovna Rada) and Chairman of the Black Sea Security Forum, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. The meeting was attended by Sara Mohammad Falaknaz, Chair of the UAE-EU Parliamentary Friendship Group of the FNC.
According to Emirates News Agency, the discussion focused on enhancing cooperation between the UAE and Ukraine, highlighting a shared commitment to advancing areas of mutual interest. Both parties acknowledged the UAE's role in hosting trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi involving the Russian Federation, Ukraine, and the United States, and in mediating prisoner exchanges between Ukraine and Russia. These efforts demonstrate the UAE's approach to supporting peaceful solutions and international peace through dialogue and diplomacy.
The meeting also recognized the UAE's contributions to humanitarian and relief efforts aimed at alleviating human suffering and fostering confidence among involved parties. Dr. Al Nuaimi underscored the significance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting dialogue and mutual understanding, stressing the need for coordinated international parliamentary positions to support peace efforts.
He further highlighted the role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) working group in seeking a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Ukraine.
