Germany presents new strategy on relations with China

German government on Thursday presented its new strategy regarding its relations with China, namely in terms of economic, political and security areas and relations with Beijing.

The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the strategy on its website, saying it would serve as a "compass for German-Chinese relations" in the upcoming years.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that the government presented this strategy because they want to cooperate with China, adding that Germany needs China, and China needs Germany and Europe.

She noted that Germany will work through this strategy to enhance cooperation with China, but at the same time "reduce dependence" on it.

In this regard, Birbuck said that Germany does not want to disengage from China, but rather reduce the risks in their relations, strengthen their economies in Europe and reduce dependence on China.

This policy aimed in the past years to reduce dependence on the outside, said Birbock on the Chinese economic policy, adding that at the same time they are trying to strengthen the dependence of other countries, especially the poor ones on them, while increasing mechanisms to achieve their interests.

China is trying to reshape the world order, which will have repercussions on European and global security, added the foreign minister, while stressing that China remains a partner and a competitor at the same time.

The German government released the strategy on Thursday, weeks after presenting another strategy to define mechanisms to deal with worldwide countries, but allocated China with a separate strategy.
