Abu Dhabi:The Global Food Week (GFW), organized by ADNEC Group in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), commenced with the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The event, held from October 6th to 8th at ADNEC Centre, also features the Global Food Security Summit (GFSS), which was attended by prominent figures from the agriculture and food sectors.
According to Emirates News Agency, the GFSS opening was attended by senior officials including Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, and several international ministers. The event brings together decision-makers, government officials, and leaders to discuss sustainable food systems.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan toured the exhibition, learning about the latest innovations in the food sector. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi emphasized the importance of interconnected food systems and the UAE's strategic role in global food trade, noting the country's investment in future technologies like vertical farming and hydroponics.
Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri highlighted the significance of GFW and GFSS as platforms for international cooperation in strengthening food systems. He also introduced ADAFSA's new corporate identity and the Agricultural Transformation Strategy, which aims to enhance self-sufficiency and resource efficiency.
The GFW 2026 features a significant increase in participation, with 2,580 exhibitors and brands from 92 countries. The event includes the Abu Dhabi Honey Symposium and the Abu Dhabi Date Palm Exhibition, showcasing innovations in beekeeping and date production. New initiatives like 'Shop at the Show' and the 'Fodder Market' have also been introduced to enhance consumer interaction and support sector sustainability.
The event underscores Abu Dhabi's growing position as a hub for food security and innovation, supported by the UAE's leadership and vision for sustainable growth in the food and beverage sector.
