ABU DHABI: The Global Media Congress concluded with a significant panel discussion titled: Media as a Mechanism of Soft Power. Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Director-General of the National Media Office (NMO), took the stage to elucidate the NMO’s pivotal role in developing the UAE’s media landscape. He emphasized the office’s responsibility in nurturing the nation’s reputation globally, acting as the official conduit of the UAE’s narrative, and representing the country in international forums.
According to Emirates News Agency, Dr. Al Kaabi stressed the evolving definition of media, highlighting the transition from traditional modes, such as poetry, to modern media’s multifaceted roles. He noted that today’s media landscape requires a blend of speed and accuracy, where individuals and institutions collaboratively share the UAE’s story on a global scale.

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary General of the UAE Media Council, added insights into the council’s regulatory and operational role within the UAE’s media sector. He highlighted the media sector’s 9.5% growth, surpassing both global and regional averages, and emphasized the importance of attracting talent and investment through proactive regulations.
Al Shehhi pointed out the growing influence of social media, noting that over 60% of the global population engages with these platforms. He highlighted the UAE’s fourth-place global ranking in talent attraction, showcasing the country’s robust media environment and the confidence it inspires among investors and global media talent.
