Al dhafra: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, has announced a financial grant of AED1 million dedicated to purchasing books and various knowledge resources from publishing houses participating in the 2026 Al Dhafra Book Festival. The festival, currently in its sixth edition, is organized by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), a part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi).
According to Emirates News Agency, the initiative is designed to bolster the cultural movement and the publishing industry while promoting reading as a sustainable social habit. It also aims to enhance the role of libraries, educational, and knowledge institutions in the Al Dhafra Region.
This directive is in line with the ‘Year of the Family’ objectives, focusing on initiatives that integrate knowledge into family life and broaden access to books, which are fundamental to cultural upbringing and awareness-building.
The allocation also aims to fortify the cultural significance of the festival by linking the community with books, supporting publishers, and enriching diverse knowledge content. It aligns with Abu Dhabi’s vision of fostering a reading society and advancing a knowledge-based economy.
Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of ALC, expressed appreciation for H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s support, emphasizing its crucial role in the festival’s growth and development. He highlighted the Sheikh’s commitment to addressing the cultural and knowledge needs of the community.
