Abu dhabi: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, H.H. Sheikh Hasher bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum inaugurated the 22nd edition of the Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIHAD 2026) at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
According to Emirates News Agency, the three-day event gathers senior decision-makers from various sectors to align efforts for effective and sustainable responses to crises and disasters. Participants include government entities, United Nations agencies, NGOs, and private sector representatives, among others. This year's theme, 'Humanitarianism in Transition: Shaping the Future of Humanitarian Action,' highlights the need for new approaches in response to evolving global challenges.
Sheikh Hasher also launched the Awqaf Dubai and DIHAD Endowment Fund for Humanitarian Action, aimed at leveraging endowments to support sustainable projects. Ambassador Prof. Abdulsalam AlMadani emphasized the pivotal timing of DIHAD 2026, amid increasingly complex crises, underscoring the need for proactive and sustainable approaches.
Dr. Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi addressed refugee issues, aligning with Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak's vision on addressing challenges like shelter, food, and education. Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi highlighted the conference theme's call to rethink humanitarian actions amid diverse global challenges.
Rania Dagash-Kamara received the DIHAD International Personality Award for her contributions to humanitarian relief, celebrating her role in developing sustainable solutions. She acknowledged the UAE's partnership with the World Food Programme in emergency responses and support for vulnerable communities.
DIHAD 2026 hosts over 21,000 participants from 165 countries, facilitating knowledge exchange, partnerships, and exploring innovative solutions. The UAE Aid Agency partners as the event's Official Partner, while Denmark serves as the Guest of Honour, reflecting its commitment to international cooperation.
The event's first day focused on understanding transitions in humanitarianism, examining drivers of change, and the need for flexible response models. Roundtable discussions addressed issues like water management and the role of artificial intelligence in sustainable development. The programme included high-level meetings and a Donor Appreciation Event hosted by Zayed University.
DIHAD 2026 runs concurrently with the International Emergency and Catastrophe Management Conference and Exhibition, exploring solutions in disaster management. The event is organised by INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions and supported by several key humanitarian organizations and UAE bodies.
