ILO Launches Global Just Transition Policy Gateway

Abu dhabi: The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has launched the Just Transition Policy Gateway, the first global platform dedicated to supporting the implementation of just transition policies. The Gateway provides policymakers and social partners with practical examples, lessons learned and policy tools to help advance decent work and social inclusion in the ecological transition.

According to Emirates News Agency, ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo emphasized the significance of just transition policies in promoting decent work, enhancing social cohesion, and supporting economic transformation. He noted that the social and economic dimensions of these transitions are vital for establishing development pathways that are equitable, inclusive, and centered on people.

The launch of the Gateway aligns with a surge in policy momentum globally. Many countries are increasingly adopting national frameworks, strategies, and roadmaps aimed at investing in skills development, expanding social protection, strengthening labour market institutions, and enhancing social dialogue.

The platform addresses the growing demand for practical examples and implementation support by offering access not only to policy documents but also to the experiences behind them. It shares insights on lessons learned, challenges encountered, and approaches that have successfully built consensus and delivered results.

A distinctive feature of the Just Transition Policy Gateway is its focus on integrated policymaking. It showcases how countries are connecting employment, skills, social protection, enterprise development, and environmental sustainability. This integrated approach helps stakeholders address environmental, economic, and social dimensions collectively in climate policy.
