IMI Media Group to Host Screenings of Ocean with David Attenborough at World Future Energy Summit 2026

Abu dhabi: IMI, the Abu Dhabi-headquartered global media group, will present daily screenings of Ocean with David Attenborough during the World Future Energy Summit, scheduled from 13-15 January 2026 at the ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

According to Emirates News Agency, the 95-minute documentary, produced by Silverback Films under All3Media, a RedBird IMI company within IMI Ventures, explores humanity's connection with the ocean. It highlights the ocean's importance to planetary stability, while addressing threats and opportunities for marine recovery. The film has received accolades, including Best Science/Nature Documentary and Best Cinematography at the 2025 Critics Choice Documentary Awards.

Attendees of the Summit will have the unique chance to participate in a live Q and A session with Keith Scholey, Director at Silverback Films, on the event's opening day. Scholey, renowned for his work on nature documentaries, will provide insights into the making of the film and its impact. He expressed his excitement about presenting the film in Abu Dhabi, a nation committed to marine protection.

The documentary premiered in London last May, attended by His Majesty King Charles III and HRH William, Prince of Wales. It captures stunning cinematography of coral reefs, kelp forests, and the open ocean, emphasizing the critical role of a healthy ocean in maintaining planetary stability while addressing urgent issues like destructive fishing and coral bleaching.

Sophia Sheikh, Content and Marketing Director for the Summit, emphasized the importance of engaging audiences in various ways to translate ambition into action. She noted that the partnership with IMI demonstrates how visual storytelling can enhance engagement and highlight sustainability challenges.

Screenings of the documentary will occur once daily over the three-day Summit at the Greenpeace Cinema in ADNEC's Hall 2. The screenings are accessible to all delegates, including policymakers, industry leaders, investors, media, students, and innovators attending the region's foremost clean energy and sustainability gathering.

Ali Yousif Al Hammadi, Chief Operating Officer at IMI, stated that showcasing Ocean with David Attenborough aligns with IMI's commitment to storytelling that promotes global sustainability discussions during international climate events.

The Greenpeace Cinema at the Summit represents the event's evolution into a platform that bridges policy, innovation, and public engagement. The cinema offers a reflective space for delegates to engage with curated ESG and energy-focused films and will host panel discussions on topics such as the 2026 environmental media landscape and Islamic finance in renewable energy.

The 2026 World Future Energy Summit, the 18th in the annual series hosted by Masdar, will feature nearly 400 expert speakers across seven sector-specific conference tracks. The event is expected to attract record-breaking numbers of attendees, exhibitors, guest speakers, and government partners, with international organizations like IRENA and the EU Hydrogen Council holding dedicated summits.

New thematic zones and conference tracks at the 2026 Summit will highlight transformative technologies and market opportunities. Notably, the FUSE AI zone will debut, focusing on AI applications in energy, smart cities, and climate resilience, while The Greenhouse startup platform will connect over 50 startups with investors and corporate partners.
