New Delhi: India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed all airlines operating international flights into and out of India to implement enhanced handling measures with immediate effect to ensure continued passenger comfort and safety. This comes in response to recent international airspace closures and overflight restrictions in the South Asian region, which have led to significant route alterations.
According to Emirates News Agency, the DGCA has emphasized that the altered flight routes have resulted in extended flight durations and the possibility of technical stops. To address these changes, airlines are required to proactively inform passengers about any route changes, extended travel times, and technical halts during their journey. This information should be communicated at check-in, boarding, and through digital alerts.
Furthermore, airlines must adjust their catering services to match the actual flight time, ensuring adequate food, hydration, and special meal options are available throughout the journey, including during any technical stopovers. It is also mandatory for carriers to maintain sufficient on-board medical supplies and verify the availability of emergency services at potential technical halt airports.
The DGCA has also mandated that aviation call centers and customer service teams be prepared to handle delays, missed connections, and provide assistance or compensation in line with applicable regulations. The directive is considered mandatory, and non-compliance may result in regulatory action under the applicable Civil Aviation Requirements. This directive is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice.
