Jakarta: Indonesian authorities are still trying to locate three missing hikers after rescuing 17 people trapped by the volcanic eruption of Mount Dukono on Halmahera island on Friday, local rescue agency officials have reported.
According to Emirates News Agency, Mount Dukono, located in North Maluku province, erupted on Friday, releasing volcanic ash that reached as high as 10 kilometers into the sky. The country's volcanology agency confirmed the magnitude of the eruption.
The local rescue agency initially reported that 20 hikers were trapped by the sudden eruption. Efforts are currently underway to find the remaining three hikers who are still missing. The authorities are utilizing various search methods to ensure the safety and swift recovery of those unaccounted for.
