Rome: Italy is projected to spend nearly £60 billion on energy imports this year, marking an increase of £8-9 billion compared to 2025, the national fuel producers association, UNEM, revealed.
According to Emirates News Agency, UNEM President Gianni Murano, speaking at the association's annual meeting, stated that the energy bill last year was £48.7 billion. This figure was over £7 billion less than in 2024, but current estimates suggest it could rise to approximately £57-58 billion this year.
UNEM also highlighted that Italy's oil import expenses could reach around £24 billion in 2026, which would be £4.5 billion more than the previous year, assuming average Brent oil prices of $90 per barrel in 2026.
