Abu dhabi: Joe Dean won his maiden DP World Tour title on home soil as he made a remarkable 11 birdies in 24 holes on the final day of the Husqvarna British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo.
According to Emirates News Agency, Dean was on the EuroPro Tour as recently as 2022 and did not play any ranking golf at all in 2023, the same year he earned his DP World Tour card through the Qualifying School. Despite earning his tour card, he delayed his debut until the following February due to financial constraints, during which time he continued to work as a supermarket delivery driver and sought the help of a hypnotist to overcome his issues with international travel.
In his rookie season, Dean quickly found success with a runner-up finish in Kenya, which earned him a cheque for just under 200,000 euros. This success was followed by another runner-up finish at the KLM Open, securing his place in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship. Although he also finished second at last year's Nexo Championship, he has now claimed victory at one of the most prestigious events on the DP World Tour.
Expressing his joy, Dean said, "All those painful hours and all the work I put into this, it's finally led to something. I'm happy."
The DP World Tour is now set to move to Switzerland for the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, where South Africa's Thriston Lawrence will defend his title.
