Abu dhabi: UAE Team Emirates-XRG's Julius Johansen clinched stage 5 of the Volta a Portugal, marking his second triumph in this year's race following a victory in the prologue.
According to Emirates News Agency, Johansen, hailing from Denmark, has now achieved five professional victories, all in 2026, and all in individual time trials. His latest triumph came on a 17.4km course, where he finished 30 seconds ahead of the second-fastest competitor.
UAE Team Emirates-XRG demonstrated strong performance with Luca Giaimi and Adri Pericas also finishing in the stage's top 10. Giaimi secured fifth place, while Pericas finished in 10th and advanced four positions in the general classification, now holding fifth overall. Pericas continues to lead as the best young rider, donning the white jersey.
The general classification is currently led by Alexis Guerin of Anicolor/Campicarn, with an overall time of 16 hours, 39 minutes, and 31 seconds. Guerin's teammate Artem Nych is in second place, trailing by 1 minute and 12 seconds, and Antunes stands third at 1 minute and 52 seconds behind. Pericas is fourth, 2 minutes and 26 seconds off the lead.
