Abu Dhabi: Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed and Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid have witnessed the announcement of a high-speed train project linking Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The official ceremony, organized by Etihad Rail at Al Faya Depot, was conducted with the blessing of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to Emirates News Agency, the project strengthens the UAE's position as a leader in smart transportation. By integrating innovative technologies, the initiative aims to elevate the nation's transport infrastructure, contributing to the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy. It promises to reduce travel times significantly, enhancing the quality of life and socioeconomic ties between the two emirates while opening new investment opportunities across sectors like logistics and tourism.
Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized the project reflects the UAE leadership's vision to advance national infrastructure. He noted the high-speed train aims to boost the UAE's global competitiveness and support sustainable development. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlighted the train as a testament to the UAE's commitment to connecting its emirates through advanced transportation solutions.
Etihad Rail will oversee the development, with the train enabling travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 30 minutes, reaching speeds up to 350 km/h. The project will contribute AED145 billion to the UAE's GDP over the next five decades. A Cooperation Charter was signed to enhance the project's infrastructure, marking significant progress in advancing the project.
On the sidelines, a comprehensive presentation on the UAE's first passenger train fleet was reviewed. The unveiling of this fleet, along with the high-speed train announcement, marks a key milestone in developing rail transport services in the UAE. The project includes the announcement of four passenger rail stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, improving access and integrating with metro and bus lines.
