Seoul:The Republic of Korea achieved a historic milestone in September by posting its highest-ever current account surplus, exceeding US$60 billion, driven largely by robust semiconductor exports, as revealed by central bank data on Thursday.
According to Emirates News Agency, the current account surplus reached $61.46 billion in September, a significant increase from $46.11 billion in August. This new record surpasses the previous high of $49.73 billion set in June, highlighting a substantial growth compared to the $14.22 billion surplus recorded in the same month the previous year.
The data, sourced from the Bank of Korea (BOK), underscores the nation's strong export performance, particularly in the semiconductor sector, contributing to this unprecedented economic achievement.
