Latin America and Caribbean Strategic Priorities Discussed at World Governments Summit Platform

Dominican republic: Luis Abinader, President of the Dominican Republic, underscored the significance of the World Governments Summit (WGS) as a critical platform for enhancing the partnership between Latin America and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The summit aims to strengthen the bridge between these regions, focusing on innovation, trade, and good governance to create more competitive and resilient communities.

According to Emirates News Agency, President Abinader articulated his vision for the Dominican Republic as a dynamic hub in the Latin American and Caribbean region during the WGS Dialogue held in the Dominican Republic. He emphasized the importance of tourism, trade, and innovation in achieving sustainable development and transforming the country's leadership model to one driven by strategic investments. This transformation aims to leverage the country's unique strengths and adapt to global geopolitical and economic shifts, reinforcing its regional competitiveness.

Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the WGS, highlighted the summit's role as a global dialogue platform. He emphasized the importance of building bridges of collaboration to empower governments and societies in shaping the future. Al Gergawi noted that Latin America and the Caribbean are key regions for strengthening Global South dialogue, which is crucial amid today's rapid changes and challenges.

Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of State, participated in the dialogue, stressing the importance of deepening ties between the UAE and Latin America and the Caribbean. She highlighted the potential for partnership despite geographical distances and the role of platforms like the WGS-LAC Dialogue in exploring actions to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and people-to-people ties.

The dialogue featured participation from various WGS partners, including Emirates Global Aluminium, Dubai Chambers, and others, providing specialized insights across economy, technology, and government services. The event aimed to explore shared strategic priorities and opportunities for cooperation, involving a wide range of stakeholders from across the region.

Key sessions during the dialogue addressed governance models for economic prosperity, 21st-century challenges, and future horizons. These sessions focused on enabling governments to adapt to technological disruptions and rising public expectations, fostering agile governance, and digital transformation.

The dialogue also included discussions on regional cooperation in trade, energy, digital innovation, and institutional reform, with the aim of transforming shared challenges into growth drivers. It explored the role of storytelling as a cultural asset and economic driver, and the importance of investing in narratives that resonate globally.

In addition, a knowledge partnership agreement was signed between the WGS and the Centre for Public Policy Analysis in Latin America, aiming to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise between the Middle East and Latin America. This partnership seeks to foster inclusive dialogue and innovative research, reinforcing South-South cooperation.

The summit, in collaboration with Kearney Foresight, also launched a report titled "Nine Catalysts for National Transformation at the Level of Individuals and Systems," addressing challenges faced by governments worldwide. The report outlines new governance models and catalysts for change, offering practical solutions and innovative policies to accelerate transformation and establish sustainable systems for future challenges.
