Dubai: Viktors Valainis, Minister of Economics of the Republic of Latvia, has underscored the 'huge untapped potential' in economic relations between Latvia and the United Arab Emirates, advocating for a new era of trade and investment collaboration based on three decades of diplomatic relations. According to Emirates News Agency, Valainis emphasized that Latvia's approach to the UAE is shifting from traditional export relationships to more profound industrial partnerships. He highlighted the food industry and related sectors as areas where Latvian companies are ready to invest in new production lines within the UAE, with potential investments in Dubai alone reaching up to £300 million. The trade flow between the two nations currently stands at around £200 million per year, which Valainis described as 'very small amounts,' suggesting significant room for growth. Valainis also pointed out that the momentum in trade is paralleled by a new wave of two-way investments. He cited the Eagle Hills investment projec t led by Mohamed Alabbar as a flagship venture, with Latvia investing £3 billion in their capital. The minister's visit to the UAE, accompanied by almost 30 Latvian companies from various sectors, underscores the strong will on both sides to enhance trade volumes and investments. The third meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission was described as 'very successful,' with new cooperation opportunities identified across multiple sectors. A business cooperation agreement between the Latvian Chamber and the Dubai Chamber was also signed, aimed at fostering closer ties between the business communities of both countries. Valainis mentioned Latvia's strong prospects in construction and sustainable urban development in the UAE, where Latvian firms are eager to contribute their expertise. He also highlighted Latvia's leadership in digital government and IT services, inviting UAE partners to collaborate in these areas. Positioning Latvia as a strategic entry point into the European Union, Valainis encouraged UAE i nvestors to consider Latvia as their platform for regional growth, citing the attractive tax regime and business environment. Reflecting on his visit, Valainis expressed optimism about the future of the relationship between Latvia and the UAE, noting the warm reception received in the UAE and the bright future for bilateral cooperation. Valainis is visiting the UAE from 23rd to 26th November to co-chair the 3rd session of the Joint Economic Committee between the UAE and the Republic of Latvia.
