Abu dhabi: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has called on the United States to aid in ensuring Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon. He emphasized the importance of preventing any breaches of the framework agreement, which aims to facilitate the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces along the international border.
According to Emirates News Agency, President Aoun's appeal was made during a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, who congratulated him on the recent signing of the agreement between Lebanon and Israel, mediated by the United States.
President Aoun expressed gratitude to the United States for its support of Lebanon's state institutions and confirmed Lebanon's commitment to implementing the agreement's terms. He highlighted the necessity of US involvement to ensure that the agreement's provisions are respected and that Israel withdraws from the occupied territories.
President Trump expressed US support for the Lebanese people in implementing the agreement. He reiterated Washington's commitment to Lebanon's sovereignty, independence, and government decisions. Additionally, he affirmed the US's continued support for Lebanon's economy and security forces, aimed at extending the state's authority across Lebanese territory and safeguarding it against threats.
