Mark Carney Wins Race to Replace Trudeau as Canada’s PM

Ottawa: Former central banker Mark Carney won the race to become leader of Canada's ruling Liberal Party and will succeed Justin Trudeau as prime minister, official results showed on Sunday. Carney, who is 59 years old, secured 86 percent of the votes cast, defeating former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland in a contest that saw participation from just under 152,000 party members.

According to Emirates News Agency, Trudeau announced his resignation in January but will continue serving as prime minister until his successor, Carney, is officially sworn in in the coming days.
